Excel Basics

This assignment was to get us working with excel. I have worked with excel some before but never extensively. I can usually get the hang of things once I play with them for a while. This is exactly how this assignment worked out. We were given a set of data from our midterm and were asked to turn our text values into numbers. We were supposed to use the find and replace tool to do this. I wasn't sure where this tool was so I used my deductive reasoning to find it near the sort tools. Then I had to play with this to find how to use it. Once I got all my text turned into discrete numbers, we were to figure out how to sort and then sort by levels. Figuring how to sort was easy. Sorting by levels was a little more difficult. I had to play with this for a little bit, but in the end I succeeded. Below is a picture of my data sorted by sex and quiz scores. We were also to figure out the average of blog posts and rank ourselves above or below average. The average is 15.44. At the time I was above average with 17 posts.

This activity fits ISTE NETS T standard number three. This models digital age working and learning to support research. Excel may not be the newest tool, but it is still a good technology to be able to use.
