Today we were assigned to create a word cloud. Word clouds are where you drop a chunk of text into a box and it takes the words and makes them into a cloud. The words that are used most appear the biggest and the insignificant words appear smaller. This tool is a great way to show students what is important in a certain chunk of text. It is a sort of summarizing tool. I dropped Shakespeare's St. Crispian's Day speech into wordle and this is what came out:
Make a word cloud of your own!
I believe this activity could fit ISTE NETS T standard number two. Students could be assigned different chunks of text to make a word cloud for an then analyze how the word cloud supports (or does not support) their analysis/summary of the text. This would fit several learning styles and promote digital learning.
Awesome word cloud.
