Today we were assigned to create a self portrait - picasso style. This was a really fun activity. I think it would be great to do with students if I could find somewhere to make it relate (I'm sure I could). I'm used to editing pictures and such on the computer, so this activity was pretty easy. When things didn't fit just right, I had to rotate them or resize them. I also added color once I realized I could (about half way through). I even used the abstract shapes to add part of a body. I did have one problem while doing this activity. When I was doing the eyebrows, I had to make them smaller. Then when I wanted to reposition them, I wasn't able to select one. The face shape kept being selected instead. In the end, I decided that it looks kind of cool with uneven eyebrows (and I do make that face at people a lot) so I kept it. Here is my picasso portrait:
For those of you who would like to make one of these, here is the Picasso site.
I believe this activity fits with ISTE NETS T standard number two. It uses digital technology to inspire creativity and fits several learning styles. This activity would go well with a unit on Picasso and would be a new way of learning. Students would be able to create their own Picasso style portrait using digital technology.
