BenderConverter

This assignment was something completely new to me. I have embedded videos into websites before, but I have never ripped them from the web. I have a tumblr account and I have seen other teachers post about converters before, but I never knew what they were talking about. I downloaded BenderConverter. It is a type of RealPlayer that lets you surf the web and download videos to your computer. I downloaded two videos (so far). They are both School House Rock videos from YouTube. I ripped the adverb song and the adjective song. In order to do this, you have to go the web tab in the player and go to YouTube. Once a video starts playing a little box on top comes up that asks if you want to download it. Then a download window pops up. From this window is where you convert your files. There are many ways you can convert it. You can put them on your phone, computer, etc. You can convert it to just sound or convert the whole video. I converted the adjective song to just sound (MP3) and the adverb song as a video (WMV).

We were also assigned to create a google docs presentation with an embedded video. I decided I liked the adverb song better so that is the video I embedded. When you go to create a google docs presentation, you have to go to insert and select video. This pops up a window directly to YouTube where you can choose a video to embed. I looked around for a while and couldn't find a spot to embed a video from your computer. I would think there would be one, but I didn't find it. Here is my presentation.

This activity fits ISTE NETS T standards 2 and 3. Putting the videos on google docs allows students to view them and use them for their own learning. It also shows me using digital technology and it allows easier access. Being able to convert the files also fits with standard 3. I could show the students how to do this so that they could put school related videos and songs on their Ipods or other devices to study.

I do think they would like it more to rip the music however =/
